Do I need a prescription from a physician for physical therapy?

In the state of New Jersey, physical therapists are granted Direct Access. Under this law a physical therapist can see you in many cases without referral from an MD unless your insurance requires it (Medicare). During your first visit, your therapist may determine that further examination is necessary and if so, by law we must refer you to your MD. In the event you do not have one we can help in finding a physician to refer you to prior to starting care.

Do you take my insurance?

Meadowlands PT and Wellness is a fee for service/out of network clinic. We accept cash, major credit cards, check, FSA/HSA. If your insurance plan has “Out of Network” benefits we will assist in obtaining reimbursement for services if available. Please contact us for more insurance/payment questions.

Medicare Patients: We are a participating provider for Medicare and submit to most Advantage plans.

What to expect on your first visit:

First you will fill out the required paperwork by law. Following this, you will discuss the history of your injury/reason for care and the PT will perform a comprehensive medical history and physical exam, followed by your first treatment.

You will see the PT for the entirety of your visit (and all follow up visits) as we do not employ aides or unskilled assistants. In most cases you will be given a home exercise program to supplement your in clinic treatment. You can expect the first visit to last 1-1.5 hours and follow up visits to last 45 min-1 hour.

What should I wear to my visit?

Please wear comfortable/workout type clothing with the ability to access the skin in the areas needed for treatment. Please have comfortable shoes in case you will be performing any athletic movements. As we will be seeing you in your home, please have a designated space for our visit.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Please have your driver's license, insurance card, MD prescription (if applicable), and any other relevant documents (X-rays, MRI, etc) to your reason for the visit.

Is physical therapy right for me?

Physical therapy (PT) can be provided to people of all age ranges with a multitude of musculoskeletal, neurologic and cardiopulmonary issues. Even without signs of injury PT can assist in decreasing injury risk, and increasing overall health/performance. Each case is unique and if you have any questions if physical therapy is right for you, please contact us for more information.

How often will I need treatment/How many sessions will I need?

This is a common question posed by patients and the answer often varies with each case. Each session is completed one on one with a skilled physical therapist. Time of care can depend on age, severity and time of injury, previous level of activity, and compliance with care. With the personal aspect of Meadowlands physical therapy's treatment approach, many times it can take fewer visits than a traditional PT clinic to see positive results. Once your PT has evaluated you on your first visit, you will be given a more specific timeline for care.
